This module introduces the concept of screening as applicable to addictive disorders; offers training on administration of ASSIST (Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test); and offers training on the Brief Intervention (BI) for addictive disorders as linked to ASSIST.
Both English and Hindi versions of ASSIST are included in this module.
The Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) was developed under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). The ASSIST helps overcome the limitations of the other screening tools by being-
faster to administer than existing diagnostic tests for substance use and substance use disorders
able to screen for all psychoactive substance
able to have cross cultural relevance
able to link easily into a brief intervention
The module is based primarily on two WHO publications- The Alcohol, Smoking and Substance involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) and The ASSIST-linked brief intervention for hazardous and harmful substance use.
